The Creep Behind the Camera (2014)

This is an oddball piece that seemed like it could have been good but isn’t.
This movie is a sort of doc re-enactment a movie called The Creeping Terror and it’s director star Art Nelson aka Vic Savage. I never saw The Creeping Terror, apparently it was featured on Mystery Science 3000.
Some real people, including Nelson’s ex-wife, somehow involved back in the day are interviewed on camera in B&W. I guess as a little clue, or disclaimer of what we just saw a line from one of them is inserted at the very end. He says something like, “All movies are bullshit.”
Well, this one certainly is.
I was kind of going along with it at the outset until red bullshit alerts went off when Charles Manson and Carl 'Alfalfa' Switzer show up. Manson is there because The Creeping Terror is supposedly being shot at Spahn Ranch. Except that the movie is being shot in like 1963 and Manson was in prison and didn’t show up at the ranch until 1968.
Alfalfa died in January 1959. The movie has Nelson in a scene where he shoots Carl through the hand. I doubt they ever even met.
After than I kind of drifted away while the movie was still on trying to verify this stuff and their timelines on the browser on my phone.
Anyway, Nelson ambuses his young wife, seduces other women by promising them big time movie careers associated with his genius.
Imagine that, a showbiz figure exploiting and abusing women with the promise of screentime. These small time scum who do things like that, shocking.
Anyone ready for The Roger Ailes or Bill O’Reilly Stories?
This is simply a sloppily done exploitation movie sort of about the production of a crappy monster movie. The Creeping Terror is likely a more sincere, honest, product no matter how bad it is. This is just dishonest and stupid and uses some real people involved for its own sleazy agendum, including the guy’s ex-wife who does on camera interviews and is featured being beat and abused repeatedly in the re-enactments.
